The 2024 Flat season is underway in the UK, and there is a lot to look forward to in the early stages of the campaign, as the British Classics arrive fast, while Royal Ascot takes place in June.
Here is a look at three horses who could shine this year and be in contention for many of the leading awards at the end of 2024.
After a fantastic campaign as a two-year-old, a lot is expected of City Of Troy in 2024. He is the odds-on favourite at 4-6 in the horse racing betting for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, while he also tops the betting at 6-4 for the Derby at Epsom.

City Of Troy has been one of the popular horse racing tips for many of the leading three-year-old races in 2024 ever since he won the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket last October. Aidan O’Brien’s runner landed the Grade One contest by just over three lengths to maintain his 100% record.
The son of Justify has the potential to be one of the best of his generation, and victory in either the 2,000 Guineas or Derby will help him do that. His next challenge will then be to prove himself against the older horses in the sport.
John and Thady Gosden’s mare, Emily Upjohn, has consistently been one of the leading mares in Europe for the past couple of years. She proved her class in 2023, winning a strong renewal of the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
The five-year-old made her return to action in the Dubai Sheema Classic on Dubai World Cup Night at Meydan earlier this year. She was only able to finish fifth in the race won by Rebel’s Romance, but her connections believe that run will ensure she is in peak condition for her opening run of the season in the UK.
The former Oaks runner-up has been entered in the Coronation Cup at Epsom once again. She will be bidding to become the first horse since St Nicholas Abbey in 2013 to defend their crown in the leading middle-distance contest.

Former Ascot Gold Cup winner Kyprios was forced to miss the majority of last season due to injury. He featured just twice at the end of the campaign, finishing second in the Irish St Leger and British Champions Long Distance Cup.
With a much better preparation for the latest year on the track, the four-time Grade One winner has a great chance of dominating the 2m division once again. His season is set to begin at York in the Group Two Yorkshire Cup. That will be a preparation run for the Ascot Gold Cup.
Kyprios has some new rivals in this year’s feature race at Royal Ascot. He is set to take on the defending champion Courage Mon Ami, his stablemate Tower of London and former Jumps star Vauban. If he can get the better of those horses, it will rank as his greatest achievement yet.
Enjoy all the action across the 2024 British Flat season. Hopefully, it will go on to be a year to remember with some big performances on the track.
